Plan for a carbon tax by 2022

Austria’s ÖVP-Green coalition created a new eco-tax-reform that paved the way for taxing CO2.

 

On October 3 2021, the government announced the twin measures: the introduction of a new "eco-social" reform to impose new carbon taxes that will fund tax cuts for low- and middle-income workers, and a carbon tax that is expected to be around EUR 30 per tonne, which will rise to EUR 55 by 2025.

This reform was passed in the Federal Council the 3rd of February 2022.
